Outdoor lighting changes how a house feels after dark. It also has to survive rain, frost, roots and garden tools for many years, which is why the parts you cannot see matter most.

What we install

  • Path and step lighting for safe movement around the garden
  • Uplighting for trees, walls and planting
  • Wall lights at doors, terraces and garages
  • Feature lighting for water, sculpture and architecture
  • Outdoor power: weatherproof sockets, supplies to garden rooms, gates, pumps and outdoor kitchens

The details that last

Cable and protection. Cables are chosen for burial or exposure, protected where they run, and routes recorded so they can be found again. Outdoor circuits are protected by RCDs as the wiring regulations require.

Fittings. Fittings need an ingress protection (IP) rating suited to where they sit: a wall light under a canopy and an uplighter set into a lawn face very different conditions.

Coordination. We work with garden designers and landscapers so ducts go in before paving, and fitting positions are fixed before planting.

Control. Lighting is grouped so it can be used in sensible ways: the path on a timer, the terrace on a switch inside, feature lighting by scene.

FAQs

Outdoor and garden lighting: questions

When should garden lighting be installed?

Ideally while the landscaping is being built. Cable ducts and draw cords laid before paving and planting make the lighting easier now and easy to change later.

Can I just use plug-in garden lights?

For a few low-voltage fittings, sometimes. For anything permanent, especially lighting set into paving, walls or water features, a properly designed and protected circuit is the safer and longer-lasting option.

Can garden lighting be controlled with the house lighting?

Yes. Outdoor circuits can be timed, controlled by a photocell, or included in a lighting control system so they come on with a scene inside.
