Lighting is the part of an electrical installation people notice every day. It is also the part most often left until too late: by the time someone asks where the lights should go, the ceilings are boarded.
We install everything from a replacement pendant to full architectural schemes with layered lighting, concealed LED, feature lighting and scene control.
Architectural lighting
Good architectural lighting is about layers: ambient light, task light where you work, accent light on surfaces and objects, and the absence of glare. It relies on details that are decided early:
- Fitting positions set out from furniture and joinery layouts, not a grid
- Recessed LED profiles in joinery, plinths, shadow gaps and stair treads, which need channels, drivers and access
- Drivers and transformers located where they can be reached later
- Colour temperature and colour rendering chosen consistently across the scheme
- Dimming compatibility between fittings, drivers and dimmers, which is the most common cause of flicker
Our guide to planning lighting during a renovation covers the decisions to make before first fix.
Lighting control
Lighting control replaces rows of switches with keypads that recall scenes. A “dinner” scene might set the kitchen pendants low, the island bright and the garden on; “all off” by the front door does what it says.
The Inspire group has installed lighting control in private homes since 2009 through Inspire Audio Visual. Where a project includes a control system, we coordinate the electrical installation with them, or with the client’s chosen integrator, so that cabling, back boxes and dimmer locations are right first time.
Everyday lighting work
Not every job is a scheme. We also replace fittings, add downlights, install bathroom and kitchen lighting, fit dimmers properly matched to LED loads, and sort out lighting that flickers, buzzes or fails.
